Our featured shop this week, Cyan°, is founded by Marie-Pier Nicol, a mother of three from Drummondville, Quebec. Marie fell in love with sewing when she was pregnant with her first child. After having her second child, Marie decided to create her own stuff, realising that she couldn’t find the things she liked from the market, and one thing led to another.
What’s the story behind the shop name?
I was in bed with my drawing pad searching for my company name and then I looked at my quilt cover color cyan and thought it would be a great shop name! And now my youngest son’s name is Yann so many people think it’s related, maybe it was meant to be!
What are your top 3 favorite picks from your shop?
My top favorites are the arrow bean bag, the panda plush and my raccoon pillow case!
Can you share with us the process of creating these items?
When I start to draw, I have no idea where it’s gonna lead me. Sometimes I start with an idea in mind and it finishes completely different! I often surprise myself with the results!
What do you love most about what you do?
Creating! And that people want to buy my creations, it amazes me!
Is there anything you dislike about it?
Sewing in repeat the same think over and over. But I don’t completely dislike it, it’s kind of zen too.
“I began making bandana bibs with pacifier holder, aprons, pillows, superhero kits, toys and then found my true love: DECOR!”
What has been your biggest challenge so far and how did you overcome it?
Finding balance between my family and my work, still working on it! Resolution of 2016.
Where do you find inspiration?
My friends, my kids, I love pinterest for the current fashion indicator.
What tips would you give moms and dads when choosing products for their kids?
I like to make things kids friendly, like washable pillow and bean bag cover. So you pay for quality and longevity!
Your message to customers and friends:
Everything I made is always out of love and I think it shows in my products. Every time someone buys something I made it fills me with joy and it reminds me that I am doing the best job ever!
Marie also welcomes custom-made orders for those of you who would like to suggest their own ideas!
Thank you so much, Marie!
