Featured Shop: Ceramic Homewares by si.li. Ceramics

Our Featured Shop this week presents another creative duo, Simona Janišová & Linda Viková of si.li. ceramics. Both graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia. They now share a passion for creating handcrafted ceramic homewares.

si.li. ceramics is a fusion of two different approaches and styles. Each piece in their shop is handmade from Limoges porcelain or high-fired stoneware, and lovingly hand painted. I love the quirkiness of their designs, particularly their Espresso cups and rectangular saucers!

What’s the story behind the shop name?

Title si.li. is derived from our first names (Simona and Linda), pronunciation refers to “silly” in english language.

What are your top 3 favorite picks from your shop?

Always the latest works! We are constantly creating some new forms and decors, actually we can pick our new si.li. basics for bathroom. These are minimalist and very functional accessories – toothbrush cup and soap dish combo.

Can you share with us the process of creating these ceramic homewares?

Process was at the beginning very spontaneous, now we are focusing on extension of our basics collection. We are in persistent cycle of creating new shapes and improving the older ones. At first place is utility with unusual detail, all crafted precisely.

Our goal is to create high class quality homewares with human touch. It is important to say, that we are a very small two persons studio and the whole creative process (hard messy work included) is just up to us.

What do you love most about what you do?

Certain freedom to choosing what will come next.

Is there anything you dislike about it?

Dust and hard work, sometimes more appropriate for men than for two young women.

What has been your biggest challenge so far and how did you overcome it?

Our biggest challenge is actually right in front of us – we want to move to a bigger studio space. We will see, how we manage to overcome it in near future 🙂 We already started to take some action ahead.
